KIll the Lights was released on July 8th, 1997. After the release of their first album, "All Destructive Urges... Seem So Perfect". Lowercase decides to take a far less noisy, dissonant and almost sparse; production of sound for Kill the Lights and focus more on atmospheric build up and more melodic undertones. A sound they've nearly captured on their 1995 single, "Cadence / No. 6 Arc". Kill the Lights is notable for taking on a more cold and anxious approach to post-hardcore and still capturing the sound that they've done on All Destructive Urges, but takes on both slowcore and
