About
The band was created spring 1997 by Max Lobier (guitar & vocals). Jean-Michel Marlier (drums) joined in july 97, while Fred Bouchet (guitar) was recruited in September 97. The main goal of this band was to play underground death metal in the vein of bands such as Sepsism, Mortician, Scattered remnants, Disgorge, Cryptal darkness, Incantation, Embalmer, Entety, Carcass, Exhumed or Hemdale. A few bass-players came and left during the first 3 years, until Cyril Blandino was debauched, april 2000. The first releases were launched at that time; a five-song CD named 'Bonecrunch' (Fleshfeast recs) as well as a split 7”ep with Last days of humanity (Evil biker recs). Spring 2001, Morgue decided to relocate in Cleveland, USA, a few weeks after the first album 'Artgore' was released (Ablated Records / Ohio - USA), the album was recorded august 1999 and took almost 2 years to be released. The band went on tour in the USA with Brodequin (USA) & Vomit Remnants (Japan) april/may 2001, playing shows in NYC, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinoise, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and putting up a memorable live show at the Ohio Deathfest (Cleveland) amongst crazy bands. A split 7”ep with WTN from Singapour was released around that time (Incise to excise recs). Morgue continued to support its first album 'Artgore' through several shows on the US soil, including killer gigs with Cephalic Carnage, Infernal Dominion, Lividity and Commit Suicide amongst others. After a 8-month crazy trip including being unemployed, broke, single, almost homeless, the US story with Ablated Records turned bad and the band re-relocated to France (minus their bassist), broke, single and sponsored by the ANPE. The second album, intuitively named 'The process to define the shape of self-loathing', was recorded during summer 2002 and produced by Adipocere Records from France. Right after this recording Mathieu Valignant joined as the new bassist and Morgue went on tour with the Swedish band Driller Killer in Holland, Belgium & France during the fall 2002. 2003, Morgue played a bunch of gigs all around France, the band got the 2 first cds 'Bonecrunch' & 'Artgore' re-released by long time friend and supporter Evil biker records as the 'There was a smell of frying' cd and eventually went out to record 4 songs for a new Ep, until one of the founding members (Max) called its quit. The EP was released in 2004 under the monicker 'Barbed wire cranium'. 2 new songs and 2 covers songs from Unsane and Embalmer. Some friends filled-in to perform live vocals at that time but after a few shows the band went on stand-by in 2005. Until february 2012, when Max Lobier & Jean-Michel Marlier decided to play again with this band along with bass-player Jérôme Blandino whose brother Cyril was part of the band more than ten years ago. Morgue performed its reunion show in august 2012 @ Paris (Batofar) with cult death-metal veterans Gorguts, a band that Morgue crossed many times while in the US. More shows with bands such as Mercyless, Psychofagist, Exhumed, Cannibal corpse, Hemdale, Brutal truth or Disgorge (US) followed throughout 2013 to 2015… each one of them turning out great. Late 2014, Morgue went as a 4-piece again (Patrick Prad being the 2nd guitar). February 2016, The band released its third album entitled "DOORS OF NO RETURN" (Basement Apes/ Trendkill/ Fatass records) . The disc was recorded in France summer 2015 then mixed and mastered by Colin Marston (Gorguts) in NYC, september 2015. A 10-day tour followed throughout France. After a few shows with Incantation (summer 2016), the drummer called it’s quit, leaving the band on hiatus.
