About

Queens of the Stone Age (often abbreviated as QOTSA) is an American rock band formed in 1996 in Palm Desert, California, by vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme following the breakup of his former band Kyuss. Over the years, the band has become known for its distinctive mix of heavy, riff-driven rock, hypnotic rhythms, and experimental elements that draw from stoner rock, alternative rock, and psychedelia. Their breakthrough came with the album Rated R (2000), which earned them critical acclaim and a wider audience, before Songs for the Deaf (2002) turned them into international stars with tracks like “No One Knows” and “Go with the Flow.” Since then, the band has continued to evolve, blending heavy guitar walls with groove-oriented basslines, dark melodies, and unexpected pop and electronic touches. Queens of the Stone Age is also known for its ever-changing lineup, with Homme as the constant driving force, while musicians such as Dave Grohl, Mark Lanegan, and Nick Oliveri have all contributed to the band’s shifting sound over the years. Their latest album, In Times New Roman… (2023), shows a band still adept at balancing dark, hard-hitting rock with melodic finesse and an almost theatrical atmosphere. The music of QOTSA is defined by sludgy riffs, pulsing rhythms, and a hypnotic mood that draws the listener into a raw yet captivating sonic landscape. For fans of bands like Kyuss, Foo Fighters, and Royal Blood, Queens of the Stone Age offers an experience where heavy rock meets hypnotic groove and a distinct, almost cinematic atmosphere.
