Anoraks are a form of hooded coat that were popular with children in the 1960s and 1970s which was adopted by indie pop groups like The Pastels, Talulah Gosh and The Soup Dragons as an anti-fashion statement and symbolic of a refusal to grow up, hence the music they produced was willfully amateurish and twee.
