Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Jacksonville
American pressing plant for Capitol Records, Inc., located in Jacksonville, Illinois. Manufacturing operations began on July 12, 1965, to keep up with the high demand for The Beatles' releases, and continued until 2004, at which time the plant ceased production of recorded media and became a dedicated distribution center for CDs and DVDs until the finalization of EMI's sale and partitioning in 2013. Capitol ceased vinyl pressing operations at Jacksonville in 1986 when pressing equipment was removed and CD manufacturing equipment installed. CDs began flowing from Jacksonville under the name Capitol Jax in early 1987, then as EMI Jax from March-October 1993 to the mid-1990s, then finally as EMI MFG. (with DVD production being added to their repertoire) until 2004, when EMI switched to outsourcing optical disc production from Cinram, Richmond, IN. The identifiable runout marking is a "0", either stamped or hand-etched, and should be entered as such. Although it may sometimes look like an "O" or "o", do not confuse this pressing mark with non-Capitol discs that are stamped with an "o" (see Customatrix) or with a capital "O" (e.g., Epic or others). Jacksonville pressings can also be identified by the 1 1/2" (1.5" or 38.1 mm) diameter pressing ring in the label area. Additional and complementary identifiers for only Warner Bros. releases that were pressed by Capitol had the following codes on the lacquer numbers (the "W" in the 2nd position stands for "Warner"): - Capital J for Jacksonville plant. - JW for Jacksonville plant. - WW for Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Winchester. - LW for Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Los Angeles (not to be confused with Longwear Plating's "LW").
