American independent record label founded 1997 or 1998 by Canadian attorney Cameron Strang, currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, and Athens, Georgia. International label code: LC 52772. Features a rock-oriented (alt, indie, country, folk, Americana, etc.) roster. Exclusively represented PBS Television program Austin City Limits to release both archival and current performances via Live From Austin TX. Originally founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota (from Strang's and Kelley Deal's Nice Records (2)); relocated to Los Angeles, California, in November 1998; Austin, Texas, office opened March 2000 (via merger with George Fontaine Sr.'s Doolittle Records); Athens, Georgia, office opened 2010, Nashville, Tennessee, office opened 2014. Initially distributed in the U.S. by RED Music; Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) in 2013; later in the U.S. by Redeye Distribution (2018); and internationally by PIAS Group. Acquired Texas Music Group, including the Antone's Records and Watermelon Records labels, in 2010; launched Normaltown Records imprint in 2012. The label was co-owned by Strang and president George Fontaine Sr., until Strang departed in 2011; John Allen was appointed president of the label in 2014.
