Sony Music México

Sony Music México refers to Sony's manufacturing plant in Tlalnepantla de Baz, a municipality of the Mexican state of Mexico. This plant was previously involved in vinyl manufacturing from the 1950s as (and earlier incarnations of that entity). It came under Sony's ownership in 1988 with 's purchase of CBS Records and was renamed at the start of 1991 as part of Sony's global rebranding from CBS to Sony. Audio cassette manufacturing began in 1991, and CD manufacturing in 1994. In 2004, Sony Disc Manufacturing unified all its international manufacturing facilities (excluding Japan) under the Sony DADC moniker. After this the Mexican facility was run by , although the name Sony Music México continued to be used in the disc matrix. The plant was eventually closed in 2015. Sony Music México can be identified by one of the following: • "Mastered by Sony Music México" present in the CD matrix. • "SMM" moulded into the inner plastic hub, usually accompanied by the mould SID code IFPI 64**. • The combination of one of the matrix number formats and SID codes described below. Mastering SID codes: IFPI LE81 - found on CDs IFPI LE85 - found on DVDs Mould SID codes: IFPI 64** Matrix numbers: From approximately 1997-2004, discs manufactured at the plant contain a unique matrix number in the format: • XXCDDA###### where XX is a variable two-character (letter or number) code, possibly identifying the client label/company From around 2004 onward, this scheme was replaced by several new matrix number series: • CDAC ###### • CTDX ###### • DIDP ###### • DIDX ###### DVDs have the following numbers: • DVSS ######A1 (single layer DVD) • DVDL ######A1 / DVDL ######B1 (dual layer DVD) Please enter these numbers in LCCN without the A1/B1 suffix These matrix numbers can be added to the catalogue number field with the Glass Mastered At role for this plant. For example: Matrix / Runout: 01CDDA001066 01 IFPI LE81 Mastered by Sony Music México Glass Mastered At – Sony Music México – 01CDDA001066 Matrix / Runout: DIDX 112550 01 IFPI LE81 Mastered by Sony Music México Glass Mastered At – Sony Music México – DIDX 112550 Matrix / Runout: DIDX1067929 01 Glass Mastered At – Sony Music México – DIDX1067929 [note Sony Music México is not specifically named in the matrix here, but is identified by its matrix number format and SID codes] Matrix / Runout (DVD 1): DVDL 562140A1 01 Matrix / Runout (DVD 1): DVDL 562140B1 01 Mastering SID Code (DVD 1): IFPI LE85 Mould SID Code (DVD 1): IFPI 6425 Glass Mastered At – Sony Music México – DVDL 562140 When IFPI 64** and/or SMM is stamped in the plastic hub, a Pressed By role can also be assigned to Sony Music México. However, please note that the CTDX/DIDP/DIDX matrix numbers are also used by other Sony manufacturing plants including DADC, and should only be assigned to Sony Music México when its name and/or mastering SID code IFPI LE8* is present. During the 1990s, some releases manufactured by Sony Music México were replicated from glass masters/stampers created by the American DADC plants, which can be identified by specific matrix patterns described and visualised on its profile (including several crosshair symbols ⌖ that are not present in Mexican glass masters), and by mastering SID codes IFPI L32*. Examples: In such cases, please enter: Glass Mastered At – DADC – DIDP-###### or DIDX-###### Pressed By – Sony Music México [only when IFPI 64** and/or SMM is present in the hub mould]
